A VERY quick permanent repair for most punctured car tires. Just pull the gooey rope half-way through the needle tool (pliers help), remove the screw/nail if it's still in the tire, use the other tool to roughen and round the hole, twist the needle tool into the hole, and then pull it out rapidly. The result gives you 4 layers of gooey rope packed against the inside edge of the tire, held in tightly by air pressure; plus twisted gooey rope through the hole to completely fill the wound. Cut off the ends of the gooey rope at tire tread level, and gravel will soon push it solidly against the outside surface of the hole. I drive a rural mail route, and frequently have these repairs last over 10,000 miles (until the tire is worn out). I've never had to re-patch a hole after using this system. More importantly, I can fix a tire in under 5 minutes, and without taking it off the vehicle. A cheap 12 volt powered inflator, or a can of flat fix, finishes the job. I never need to put on the spare tire, or have a tire professionally repaired; unless I have a puncture in the side-wall, or a huge hole. These kits pay for themselves with the first tire repaired, and additional pieces of gooey rope are available for under 40 cents each. I've repaired over 50 tires with my first kit, and the tools are holding up just fine. These T handled tools are a bit more expensive than the screwdriver shaped ones, but the improved torque and comfort is definitely worth it. Preventing the hassles of putting on the spare tire, and of waiting at a tire shop while the flat tire is repaired, makes these kits invaluable.

I don't usually review products but I would like to comment on this one as I have had a number of flat tires over the last five years and I like this one. I think the original packaging had more string-plugs but oh-well, I'm buying some more of these so I can have them in both vehicles that I maintain. I've also bought a number of other semi-disposable kits to plug tires.I have a cheap three dollar kit from Harbor Freight which is similar, except the string plugs are slightly bigger, the rasp tool makes a bigger hole, and the release mechanism is slightly different on the insert tool. This equates to having to use a lot more force to rasp out the hole so that it is big enough to take the plug. Also, it doesn't release the plugs well.This kit is great. The rasp is small enough for most nail holes that I end up with and the release mechanism on the insert tool is better. I carry this tool and a bigger one, but I almost allways end up using this kit. Plus, the plugs are a good size and I've never had one leak yet.I will caveat this review by saying that if you have limited strength you may want one of the more expensive kits with T-handle tools.

Didn't realize how hard you had to push to smooth out the hole in the tire, but don't be afraid to put all of your weight into the tool. The thing worked great though. Saved me $20 by doing it myself, instead of bringing it to the gas station.
